The elephant seals place on the food chain is at the very top. They are carnivores because they like to eat squid, octopus, and all kinds of fish, although it mostly eats fish and squid. Some have gone to pretty drastic measures to get food when there is not enough food around. Sometimes they have been known to consume penguins in this kind of case. Once, an elephant seal has been recorded to go over 3,000 feet below the surface to get the food it needed. Since the elephant seal eats only other animals, it is well known to be a top carnivore on the food chain.
